The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes or the Domain (as it is most commonly known) is an area of ground surrounding the Catholic shrine (Grotto) to Our Lady of Lourdes in the town of Lourdes, France.
Beyond the chapel is the Grotto of Lourdes Cave, which is a replica of the Grotto of Lourdes in France built by our seminarians in 1875. At the Grotto Cave you can light a candle, sit, pray and mediate. Nearby is a statue of St. Bernadette Soubirous, the young girl from Lourdes who saw the Blessed Virgin 18 times in 1858.
Lourdes Grotto In the early 1900’s when the Mount was a Jesuit scholasticate, there lived here a humble lay brother by the name of Joseph Giraudi. Brother Joseph had suffered a leg injury in Oregon where he had been assigned to an Indian mission previous to his transfer to Mount St. Michael.
