February 11 is the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes, one of the most famous apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On this day in 1858 a young, poor girl named Bernadette Soubirous was out collecting firewood with her sister and another friend near a grotto when she saw a vision of a lovely lady.
St. Mary of Lourdes Grotto. In 1858, in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains of southern France near a town called Lourdes, the Blessed Virgin appeared in a small cave by the River Gave, the Cave of Massabielle. She appeared to a 14-year-old girl named Bernadette Soubirous a total of 18 times during the course of the year.
