In its 90 year history, Our Lady of Lourdes has had only three pastors, a remarkable feat for a modern church. It is only by coincidence, Father Seamus insisted, that all three men hailed from Ireland. While its leadership has remained steady, the demographics of the church body have changed greatly over the past nine decades.
On October 29, 1944, the Reverend Thomas J. Healy was presented to the people of Lakeside as the first pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel and celebrated the first Mass there. Within ten years the little chapel on Clover Lane was outgrown and property was purchased on Woodman Road as the site for a church.
We are a diverse community. Individually, we come in many shapes, sizes, and ages from as nearby as Birmingham and as far away as Africa. Even though we may have been born in the United States, Africa, the Philippines, Guatemala, or somewhere else entirely, we all call Our Lady of Lourdes in Birmingham, Alabama home.
We are a parish of approximately 2,400 households, and our parishioners come from all parts of Columbia, Missouri and the surrounding areas. We are one of three Catholic parishes in Columbia, along with the St. Thomas More Newman Center and Sacred Heart Parish, and are a member parish of the Diocese of Jefferson City.

The church has one Sunday Mass every week, at 8:45am on Sundays. St Urban's Church has Mass times not to conflict with Our Lady of Lourdes church, it has Mass at 6:00pm on Saturdays and at 10:30am on Sundays. St Urban's Church usually has Mass from Monday to Friday at 9:15am, whereas Our Lady of Lourdes Church has a Mass at midday on Saturday.
