Our Lady of Lourdes is a Roman Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin Mary venerated in honour of the Marian apparitions that reportedly occurred in 1858 in the vicinity of Lourdes in France.
Lourdes is a village in France where Our Blessed Mother appeared eighteen times to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. Her messages to Bernadette are ageless and apply to all of us today. Bernadette Soubirous was born on January 7, 1844.
Our Lady of Lourdes was founded in 1911 by the Rev. Ignatius Lissner, of the Society of African Missions. His search for a site to build this mission was met with both anti-black and anti-Catholic sentiment.
The Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes is February 11th. In the early 1940's a Presidium of the Legion of Mary met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Lyons. It was made up of parishioners from St. Paul's and from Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Parish History The origin of Our Lady of Lourdes parish began in 1950 when Archbishop John Floersh announced that two new parishes would be established in eastern Jefferson County. The original Holy Trinity parish would be divided into three parishes – – Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Margaret Mary, and Holy Trinity.
