During the 1940’s—early 1950’s Our Lady of Lourdes was the only parish serving the Catholic community of South Brevard County. Fr. Brush founded our parish school in 1953 with the construction of a four-classroom building.

Our School History Founded by the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes School welcomed its first pupils on September 13, 1949. A total of three BVM Sisters & one lay faculty taught 225 children in grades one through 6.
Although the school opened in September, the Lourdes parishioners continued to attend Holy Trinity until the church was completed in December. The celebration of the first Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes was on the feast of our Blessed Mother, the Immaculate Conception, December 8, 1950.
Lourdes in France. The new school opened its doors in September of 1958 with a faculty of four Marist brothers, four Dominican sisters, an athletic coach, and an enrollment of 280 students. The original school was divided into two halves, one for the boys and one for the girls. Our Lady of Lourdes existed this way as separate schools until 1970.
Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and School History. Our Lady of Lourdes Parish began Easter Sunday, April 17, 1927. The first Mass was celebrated by Father Francis Biendl (1927-1932) in Dr. Charles Murray’s home located near the site of the present church. Six months later the white frame building was completed as the first church.

Our Lady of Lourdes High School was founded in April 1958 by His Eminence, Francis Cardinal Spellman, who purchased the former Poughkeepsie High School building and grounds from the Poughkeepsie Board of Education.
